Tri-Cities Prep faced some of the toughest competition in district competition. Monica Powers, Monica Daly, Kristine Vaz were named “Best Witness” while Marcella Saenz was selected “Best Attorney” in her round of competition. It was only the second time in TCP’s Mock Trial history that they did not earn an outright berth to the state competition. “This team was outstanding and is truly ready for state level competition,” said coach Brian Roach. Tri-Cities Prep faced both Kennewick and River Academy of Wenatchee in their two rounds of competition in what turned out to be very challenging and tight scoring matches. Kennewick and River Academy took first and second in the competition respectively. Tri-Cities Prep finished a very close third.
Senior Marcella Saenz said she is not disappointed in the season, just the final result at districts. “I am really proud of how hard we worked and how well we competed at districts,” said Saenz. “We did the best we could and that is all we could ask of each other.”
Fellow senior Laura Sherwood added that this team was a better reflection than the final result at districts. “This is the best season I have been a part of but our team realizes that we do not perform for our personal glory, but for the glory of God and we gave Him our best.”
Seniors that participated on this years Mock Trial team were Kevin Ratuiste, Marcella Saenz, Helen Mary Roach, Laura Sherwood, Monica Powers, Monica Daly, Mairi Rodriguez, and Kendell Gilmore.
