Letter to the Editor – Tri-City Herald – Published October 2, 2016 We can help prevent drunken driving By:  Aubrey Scott ’19 & Evelyn Mayorquin ’20 Would you like to be responsible for someone else’s death because of your own reckless behavior? According to a study by the National Highway Safety Administration, more than 10,000 people were killed in drunken driving accidents in 2015.  That is approximately one person dying every hour in these accidents. When you drink alcohol, your reaction time will slow down, you’re less coordinated, your vision is impaired, and it’s harder to think clearly.  When you’re on drugs, your vision, brain, thoughts, and what you hear change, causing you to become a hazard.  Now imagine someone under the influence of these toxic substances on our streets, putting our lives and their life in danger. If we all work together as a community, we can help prevent some of […]

(The following was taken from a September 25th, 2016 article published in the Tri-City Herald by Kristin M. Kraemer): Patrick Clark likes to refer to the 17 stained glass windows he made for Tri-Cities Prep as his “circle of life” project. Raised in Richland until he was 14, the New York City artist has returned numerous times over the past 16 years to handle two separate installations at the Catholic high school in Pasco. And now, Clark, 62, is taking part in a book that not only will document the history of Tri-Cities Prep, but the reason behind the windows and the role God might have played in inspiring him. “It really was a long, hard journey making these windows,” he told the Herald. “It was a big production, it turned out great and (the students and faculty) love them. It’s a really precious gift to me.” Clark spent this […]

Rehearsal was over for the day, but opening night wasn’t far off and the teens were taking every opportunity to work on, well, everything — including their waltz. They play Oberon and Titania in Tri-Cities Prep’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The show makes its debut May 13. It’s taken months of work to arrive at this moment, from auditions in January to tech rehearsals the last few days. And the stakes are high. Midsummer is a comedy, which means it’s lighter fare than, say, Othello. But, still, it’s Shakespeare. So when 7 p.m. hits, Hogan, Gillian and about two dozen of their friends will have to juggle mouthfuls of “thys and […]

Alli Jacobs had never gardened before this summer. The Tri-Cities Prep senior’s foray into horticulture came with lessons in hindsight, particularly when it came to the organization and spacing of the 40-by-60-foot garden on the private Catholic school’s grounds in west Pasco. “We had to cut the tomato plants back so we could actually walk between the rows,” said Alli, 18, adding it took more than three hours to do the pruning. But considering she also convinced numerous fellow students to help her care for and harvest the garden throughout the summer, resulting in more than 1,000 pounds of fresh produce donated to a local food bank, Alli and others at Tri-Cities Prep consider the project a success. “I got to drop the produce off at the food bank sometimes and it was great to see how much was weighed in,” said senior Cesar Robles, 17. “Sometimes they were out […]
